48th Annual Meeting Highlights
A delicious buffet dinner, delightful entertainment by the
Stroudsburg High School Show Choir, the usual uproarious
humor supplied by Board Chairman David J. Piatt, awards,
the final report from Past-President/CEO Dorothy A. Fox, and
the introductory report from President/CEO Mark T. Filbert
highlighted the 48th Annual Meeting. The meeting was held at
Peppe's Ristorante in East Stroudsburg on April 22, 2008 with 69
members and guests present.
Following the buffet and entertainment, Chairman Piatt
delivered a computer slide presentation that dealt with the
opening of our new building and the strategic planning
activities of the Board. Dorothy Fox reported on the various
plans that were required for moving into the new building,
the purchase of another property on Clay Avenue, and the
numerous community activities in which we participated last
year. Mark Filbert reported that his leadership will be guided by
the mission statement, core values, and vision statement which
were adopted by the Board, and the personalized service we
provide to our members that has been our hallmark in the past
and will continue to be the way people view us in the future.
Rose M. Robacker, who is retiring as the Chairperson of the
Supervisory Committee after 25 years of service in that capacity,
stated in her final report that the credit union is being operated
at an extremely efficient level. She also introduced the new
Chairperson, Amanda Smith.
Gertrude "Trudy" Piatt received the Meritorious Service Award
for her nine years of service on the Supervisory Committee, and
her service to the community at large. Luann James received
the Dr. Alfred D. Sumberg Founders Award for her 13 years of
service on the Board and service to her school and community.
Elected to three-year terms on the Board of Directors were Dr.
Constantine A. Christofides, Peter E. Gerard, and Androulla M.
Tofalli. Appointed to the Supervisory Committee were Amanda
Smith, Paul Kayatta, Trudy Piatt, Rose Robacker, and
Raymond Schweisguth.
The final activity of the evening was the distribution of the
door prizes. For many, this is the highlight of the evening,
not because of the wonderful door prizes, but because of the
boundless humor provided by Chairman Piatt. There is nobody
who can surpass his ability to make people laugh. If you didn't
attend this year, you won't want to miss next year's Annual
Meeting. Circle the date, Tuesday, April 28, 2009, on your
calendar as a reminder.

Are You Going On Vacation Or Traveling On Business?
If you are traveling, let us know. For your protection, all
transactions on your Visa® Credit Card and Check Card are
monitored to determine if the transactions are within your
usage patterns. For example, if you generally use your card
in Pennsylvania and a transaction takes place in Russia, the
transaction may not be approved. For this reason, we ask that you
notify us of your travel plans at (570) 421-5585, option 3, so we
can add a notation to your account.
Your credit union also has American Express® Travelers Cheques,
Gift Cards and Foreign Currency services available for
your convenience!

Visa® International Transaction Fees For Credit Card And Check Card Purchases
Effective April 4, 2008, Visa® implemented an International
Service Assessment (ISA) Fee of 0.8% for single-currency
international transactions (cross-border transactions where
a currency conversion does not take place). A transaction
performed in Canada that is processed as U.S. Dollars is an
example. The sale is performed outside the U.S., but is not
processed in that country's own currency. Visa® will also
continue to apply the existing ISA fee of 1.0% for multi-currency
international transactions (transactions where a currency
conversion takes place). If you have questions about this, please
call the office.

Please Note:
New - $1.50 Share Draft Manual Posting Fee
If a share draft/check with an incomplete account number attempts to post to your account, the Share Draft Manual Posting Fee will be assessed. You can avoid this fee by providing the full 7-character account number located at the bottom of your share draft/check. Be sure to provide your full account number to check printers, and when authorizing an automatic debit to your account.

Senior To Senior by Dorothy Fox
As many of you know, I retired at the end of February 2008. Retirement is
something that takes a lot of planning beforehand. First, it is important to
review all of your current expenses and see if there are ways that some of these
expenses can be reduced. For example, can you lower your cable, telephone,
or car insurance expenses by calling the company and reviewing your usage or
coverage? Also, try to pay off as many loans and credit cards as possible because
you will be living on a lower income.
Remember, you will probably pick up some
additional expenses such as medical insurance, and Long Term Care. Look into these additional
coverages several months before you retire so that everything will be in place when you need it.
Remember, our credit union offers Long Term Care coverage through CUNA Mutual Group. You
can learn more about the Long Term Care program under the NE PA @ A Glance section of the credit
union website, or by calling CUNA Mutual Group at 1-800-443-6003. If you
are interested in learning more, a representative can come to your home and explain the different
coverages that are available to you. They will also show you price comparisons from several other
companies. And, best of all, since you are a member of NE PA and you authorize the company to
take the payment from your account at the credit union, you will receive a 6% discount on your
premium. Long Term Care not only covers nursing home care, but it also covers assisted living
facility and home care costs.
Next, prepare an "after retirement" budget so that you can estimate how much monthly income
you will need. If you find you are not financially prepared, either continue working until you are
in a better position financially or consider a part-time job to make up the shortfall in your budget.
Preparing before you retire will enable you to enjoy retirement.
If you are interested in receiving some budgeting assistance, please contact the office at
(570) 421-5585, option 1140 and set up an appointment with a qualified credit
union representative.
