At NE PA Community Federal Credit Union, we are committed to providing you with the most up-to-date options for all your banking needs. That's why we're excited to announce our plan to provide EMV Chip Cards to our debit and credit cardholders.
How does it work?
At chip-enabled point-of-sale and ATM terminals, the embedded microchip in your EMV Chip Card and the terminal communicate. The chip gives the terminal a unique, one-time authorization code for the transaction. This technology protects against card counterfeiting, and renders stolen transaction essentially useless.
Why do I need it?
To prevent fraud Chip cards generate a unique one-time code every time they’re used in-store at a chip-activated terminal. This feature is virtually impossible to duplicate in counterfeit cards, helping to reduce in-store fraud.
To protect against loss All Visa transactions – chip and non-chip -- will continue to be protected through Visa's Zero Liability Policy, just as they are today.
To stay ahead of the times Visa chip technology helps pave the way for innovations such as mobile commerce, helping to ensure that wherever and however you pay is secure and convenient.
When will EMV Chip Cards be sent to members?
Visa Check Card: We anticipate that the first of our debit cardholders will receive their new cards by November 2015. The full process of providing new debit cards should take approximately six months.
Visa Credit Cards: Members will receive new EMV chip cards at their scheduled reissue date when their current card expires.
